One Malaysia
**MORE PICTURES FROM CAROL!!!**
OK forget what I said about not blogging =____=
I couldn’t sleep last night cause I was busy thinking about alllll the things I want to talk about in my blog! You know someone’s a true blue blogger when she rather think of things to blog about than to sleep..
Anywayyy I had the best best best weekend ever so I must not not blog about it! Despite my extreme amount of work, I went to the Northeast Malaysia Forum again because I’m dying to meet Malaysians. Besides, it’s only an hour and a half away by car. Ok tell you something funny!! So I didn’t want to take the bus cause it’s freaking expensive and takes 3 hours!!! So you know what I did? (ok mummy and papa please don’t kill me T_T)
I went to craigslist to look for a driver… *cowers in case people scream at me
Craigslist is this online classifieds where people sell their houses or cars or anything or offer rides and they are random strangers! When I told people at the forum that I did this, everyone went “you WHAT?!?!?!” But there were four of us and a friend of mine knows this guy so…shouldn’t be that dangerous right?
So yeah, this 40+ year old guy gave us a ride and I was pretty scared at first. He even offered us candies and I was OMG no way I’m gonna take candies from this stranger! I also sacrificed my sleep to talk to this guy in the car allll the way there just so I know where he was bringing us to.
BUT anyway he was a very nice guy who also waited for us for a very long time without complaining so this shows that people can be nice after all *big wet eyes (mummy papa please don’t kill me T_T)

Ok I know it’s not fair cause I skipped a few days for my project 365 but..I was busy!
We arrived on friday evening at Yale University, where the forum was to be held. Yale looks a lot like Mt Holyoke cause of the similar gothic architecture but it’s of course a lot bigger and nicer!

Su Ann brought some cupcakes from London for me! =O

Supposedly the best cupcake everrrr and I was skeptical at first but it was really good!

Half the people who were there. The turnout was less than last year but still quite impressive! I think there were 90+ of us this time around.

Why I love NMF is how we use technology to transcend all borders and seas and mountains to connect with people back home. The 4 speakers were back in Malaysia so we used skype to listen to them speak! Granted there were a loooot of technical difficulties, but this idea still amazes me.

This is so cool I tell you. We had several laptops scattered all over the room where people could pass their questions to these moderators and the questions would be posted up on the screen (far left). This way, we didn’t have to waste time asking questions and the speakers could read directly what the people asked!
I <3 the organizers, Joyce, Nithiya and Samuel! And a lot others of course.

Lunch with really great people!
From left: ee-lynn, naim, emily, me, viknesh, andrew, nithiya and rina! Everyone there was soooo smart you don’t even know it. Like intelligent until I feel like my jaw dropped everytime they spoke. Especially Nithiya, I swear he’ll be an amazing politician someday.
And then we spent the entire afternoon in discussion, which was the main highlight of the event really. Discussions were based on whatever the participants wanted to talk about so we had 4 different groups.
1. Concept of One Malaysia and national identity
2. Education in Malaysia
3. Economics and other serious stuff wtf
4. Racial issues, equality, NEP etc
Despite being an economics major and having a huge interest in education (i wanna be a teacher! i think..), I couldn’t possibly resist going to the best discussion group of the lot! I went to the one on one malaysia of course, you know..me being very passionate about unity in Msia wtf
This is very stupid but I’ll tell anyway. So we started talking about personal issues and our experiences with racism and I started getting excited! Then I was very eager to contribute so I raised my hand but when everyone looked at me, I got very nervous and started rambling wtf. I don’t know how but I started talking about having malay boyfriends and how I can’t count with my fingers how many I had =.= and everyone laughed while I sat there stupefied at what I just said. This is an issue very close to my heart and was an emotional period of my life and these 20+ people are laughing at me T___T why am i so stupid!
And then news spread to the other discussion groups and some people came to me and asked me to repeat the story T_T
Anyway racial issues are something I feel very very strongly about and I’ll write about it sometime soon, in protected posts of course. I’ll talk about my malay bfs story wtf

I’m gonna interrupt the seriousness of this post with this random irrelevant picture of my outfit wtf. I actually curled my hair (woke up at 7am to do that T_T) but the curls went down cause I didn’t use hair spray

MALAYSIAN FOOD FOR DINNER!!!!!!1 WOOTS

Carol and Andrew enjoying their food!

With chern han. I look like I don’t have a body wtf

This is damn funny! People were just chillaxing in the room and so su ann and i went in front to sing Barbie Girl WTF. And danced along with it too. I have no idea what I was doing here, trying to touch her barbie boobs kua. I was Ken cause you know how rough my voice is =.=

Haha since so many of you know Chern Han, here’s another picture! He was like eh suet li my friends don’t believe I’m going to see you must take picture as proof! wtf hhahhaa! chern han goes to princeton but his hokkien damn power one!

Then Emily and Su Ann were like eh we also want!!! Then Chern Han got damn shy cause surrounded by so many girls suddenly hahaha!
Speaking of Emily, she is so amazing! One of those people whom I can click with immediately after we’ve just met! and we started ejek-ing each other 30 mins after we introduced ourselves wtf

Before going back to the hotel!

Guess what we did at night! Around 20+ of us were playing Taboo, the bestest game in the world!! And look at how excited Su Ann was wtf
One of the main reasons why I love this year’s forum better– cause we were all in the same hotel and so we could randomly just pop into someone’s room to hang out!

Jocelyn, Emily, Jerusha, me, and Steph.
Sorry my face looks round cause I wore a headband. The point of this photo is to show you how short I am even with heels T_T And also to show you what I was wearing!!! Look at my bare legs omg I almost froze to death under the super windy 5 celcius weather.
I love my Aldo heels! I will always spend more on shoes now cause now I see why people think quality> price. Although I got my shoes for $18 wtf (70% discount!) but they were so comfy! I walked in the 3.5 inch heels for 3 days before I felt that my feet really hurt. Normally I can only do..2 hours?
(i still cannot get over the fact that although everyone was wearing flats, they were still so much taller than me!! I’d rather be taller than having to wear heels T_T<– duh? say =no say! might as well no need to mention this statement wtf)

Indian food for lunch at this amazing Indian restaurant! Paper thosai!
And then we went back homeeee! safe and sound.
This is the best weekend I’ve had cause of all the great people I met (I think I talked to around 80% of the people who went, that’s why I lost my voice today T_T) and cause of all the things I’ve learnt. I’ve always had great optimism for my country but it’s very nice to know that so many others feel this way. This forum showed me how idealistic the youth are still and that we have never given up on our beloved country.
Most of the people I talked to are very eager about going back to work (although how true that is I will never know) and almost no one was cynical about anything. We hope that this forum has given us the platform to voice out our agreement and perhaps we’ll go back to continue these discussions with our friends back home. There’s no point going on and on about what we don’t like about Malaysia or how we’re frustrated. Why not talk about what we love and how we as individuals can do something too?
I know there’s always only so much we can do since the government is a huge hindrance but we can always start small you know? See past the political turmoil and talk about what we love about Malaysia cause the government does not equal the country. Maybe when everyone thinks this way, it’ll bind us all together and there’ll be unity again *hopeful
As you can see, the language I used is also very simple. People there were very intelligent, eloquent and articulate and I felt so inferior cause I’m the least articulate and eloquent person ever. When I open my mouth I’m like a kampung girl wtf. I asked my friends there if I was the most ‘cho loh’/chu lu/kasar/rough girl they know and they didn’t even have to think before they said yes T__T walau I see you guys once a year only ok where is the love!!
I told them that from now on, I’ll be very soft-spoken and dainty (you know guys like girls like that!) then they laughed at me! And I said I’m serious and started talking very softly and smiled a lot and fluttered my eyelashes then they laughed again =_= then I hit some of them on their backs and was back to my usual self wtf
Sooo anyway my point is, I know there are a lot more Malaysians in the States who did not attend the forum so pleaseeee do go to the one next year. I promise you won’t regret it ever! To all the Malaysians back home, I love you all!
No related posts.

I love you too.
Wah woman, so can you help organize MF next year?
Need someone to assume the torch from Nithi and Joyce
i realised how much i love malaysia after being abroad
although i still dun like our system wtf
but i miss everythin there
miss the food, miss how there are malays, chinese and indians at some pasar malan wtf, miss BM alot and the list goes on
wah taboo game! looking at the picture, I remember playing something like this, in fact the room looks similar, and su-ann-look-alike clapping like that and even someone touching his nose at the very left.
The only different might be the fact that our ‘su-ann’ was saying “fart louder! *clap* fart louder!” while everyone else were like “come on dude, you can do better than that” wtf.

The second last picture; I tried looking for you since you already mentioned you are inside the picture as well, but I still couldn’t spot you until you said you are the shortest one in the picture and I almost couldn’t recognise you =P
I’m really looking fwd to the one malaysia concept. I love Malaysia! <3
Since you mentioned about the stranger driver, I had my share of that too last weekend. Thinking about it… Wow, what was I even thinking. We met this Japanese guy in his late 30s in a park and then he even offered to drive us back in town, but it was only us two girls. But then again, it proves that there are still some kind strangers around.
glad you blog again
hey taboo king here haha.. we should play taboo again, that was so much fun… and hope u love all the malaysians here in the US too !!
take care!
liewsuetli why you didn’t wait for pics from me T_______T

how tall are u actually? 160cm? you have skinny legs and your body look nice although shorter than others. I love you too. come back to malaysia soon!
“There’s no point going on and on about what we don’t like about Malaysia or how we’re frustrated. Why not talk about what we love and how we as individuals can do something too?”
well said,:),pessimism doesn’t make a difference to a situation.
ps:don’t worry,being “cho loh” doesn’t make u stupid,u’re still a very intelligent young woman
Halo Subang friend! Taboo was so fun! Not to mention that was my bed you guys were sitting on! I guess the best part of any conference is the activities and kopitiam style chats that take place after the formal events are done. =p
Oh yeah, I still remember your Barbie dance with Su Ann. HAHAHA!
So Suet, this forum is only limited to Malaysian students in Northeast? How about a Malaysian that is neither a student nor from Northeast?

He is going places that guy
wow, i respect yr malaysian spirit.i really do! 90% of the blogs i read only know how to complain about malaysia and malaysians. Thanks ya!
p/s: i stongly had a strong feeling that you’ll never leave yr readers un-updated. hehehe…
ah guess what I did this one Malaysia thingy too. I had to meet with Tun Ling Liong Sik and tell him what I think about ONE MALAYSIA. Hope my ideas helpful though. @@
YAY!
p.s. coordinate next year ok?
i had a malay bf too! err but hes like a quarter malay and the rest chinese but it didnt work out =/
speaking of equality, we can see that there are many people of the new generation who opt for change in the recent election. won’t say much here but our country is starting to grow and maybe it’s all these forums that help the young intellectual to have a greater voice regarding these issues.
say yes to a united malaysia! wheeeee!
btw your legs so nice lar, you know how some ppl are short but they still look quite tall? well its cause of long legs and you have em so you dont look tht short la. but short also nice what. cute! (I’m 5 feet 2 and a half T_T)

wow. quite a lot of DU students there. Hehe.
Hmph, why does everyone love my brother (Nithiya) so much cheh if he is gonna be a politician I’m gonna be the Queen of the World!
Seriously everyone I am oso damn smart and eloquent and tall please ask Liew Suet Li.
OMG the cupcakes *dies* -___-
I am also very particular about racial unity and it is something close to my heart. I just wish everyone (including those around me and my family) would be more open minded those issues. You see, I am with someone of the other race (Malay) and I’m keeping it a secret (well, not anymore) for almost a year now. I just hope there will be more understanding and less selfishness (am I making sense?). C’mon guys, we’re all Malaysians. There is no your kind or our kind. There is only us.
Wah I talk too much whohoh

Anyway, that’s just a piece of my mind. So Updates!!
i wanna read your protected posts also … can i be included too plsplspls? >~<”
I’ll have to say it’s quite rare for someone studying abroad to be so patriotic. Most would go on blabbing about how they hate Malaysia and how Malaysia is nothing compared to where they are.
I’m a Chinese in a local university in Malaysia now and I am actually quite sad to see how unity is almost non-existence here. To make matters worse, lecturers are racist too. It’s very surprising but that’s the truth.
I used to be very optimistic about the unity in Malaysia until I came here. It’s smtg sad to see, and it got me thinking is there even unity in Malaysia. Unity is what we see in Merdeka ads but when it comes down to the real thing, it’s ugly.
Visit this blog to brighten up your day! I bet you’ll love it!
http://akiraceo.com/
darn i measured with a belt and my thighs are longer than my calves too! lol wait when you say measure calves does it mean the length from half the knee all the way to the foot, as in is the foot included? *hopeful T_T
harlow suetli! it’s so nice reading about NMF on your blog
I enjoyed reading the whole “being a malaysian” part, coz i feel the same way too! i wanna say there’s cuteness in being “cho lo” coz sometimes i also like that! (*Air Five from Philadelphia =p)
hey,the cupcake looks delicious!! i start read ur blog long time ago ^^
the forum is super cool. i like the idea. =)
you whattt?!!!
haha that was so ingenious anyway

SUETLI!! U sang in front of people??? Wah….Barbie Girl or not, you damn power!!!! /pats suetli on the back. Good job!!!
I am very friend with my friends of other races here in USM cause sometimes, they are much easier to mix with. I enjoy having dinner at Bilik Tv with them, watching some Malay dramas or something!! I’m gonna miss my hostel if my application is rejected again. =( I still believe there’s unity. But it’s hidden with all those unnecessary dramas everywhere.
is Jerusha Cindian? i think she’s Ding’s cousin if not mistaken.
Hi suet li, i like the clothes you wore to the forum and the forum looks interesting and its certainly good to meet other malaysians there. Anyway, hmm i had a bf who is a Muslim but not a Malay (i know very complicated so usually i don tell ppl these cz ppl will start asking a lot of ques which i dont see why they shd fl so weird about) in the past so im very interested to hear ur stories about ur ex malay bfs. Include me in your mailing list for password k?
