Toilet survey
So you are in dire need to pee/shit/sit on the toilet bowl. You walk into the bathroom and find 5 empty stalls (as illustrated below) (and one wonders where I get all the time for this) (exams in 27 hours)
Which one will you choose? E, the one closest to you? C, the one in the middle? A, the furthest one? Assuming that all the stalls look clean and have doors that can be locked wtf. Also, handicap toilet is only for handicapped people! I drew it just to add the realistic oomph in my drawing wtf
I’m very interested in the psychology behind this so let me know your choice and WHY! I might write my thesis on this wtf hahahha kidding lah but it’s still interesting.

Probably one of the corners, most probably the one closer to the door. But I am biased towards B & C just cos they look bigger in the drawing -__________________-.
usually the corner ones eventhough ppl always advice against tha cuz of ghost *o* nd usually the brightest,cleanest, driest stall..so open every door and observ first. haaha

Actually, I’ve read of some research on this matter. However, it was via Reader’s Digest that I saw it, so the research effort’s validity and rigour was probably not thoroughly verified.
The findings were that the middle toilets were used the most often. The hypothesis is that most users assume the nearest stalls are used the most often, so they go in a bit. The furthest stalls are least used.
For a pee, i just use whichever cubicle/urinal that is convenient. However, i have noticed myself drifting in a bit towards the middle toilets as the research has found.
However, a sit-down affair requires more care. The toilets in Malaysia and China tend not to be very clean, so a visual inspection has to be performed before choosing a cubicle.
I will choose A…because I don’t want people that will come in to hear me making my business. Hahaha
i’ll either choose E or A or the toilet that I usually go. To feel belong wtf…But if in the case of first timer, I would either choose E or A unless if it’s dirty then i’ll choose others. Lol..
i normally go to E first and see if it’s not filled with poop and the door lock is ok then i just settle for it
else i’d look at D and else C and then B and then A
D! cuz it feels random haha no lar strictly by feeling.
im afraid of corner toilets cuz in primary school & secondary school right, there’s always rumors that the last toilet is haunted T___T so i die die also wont go in. haha

I would normally go for the middle ones - B or C. But it also depends on which one is most brightly lit. You know how those fluoro lights are placed unevenly across the toilets and they’re not always lit the same. I like the bright ones.
I tend to take the ones at the end simply because its more quiet and I can shit/pee in peace.
Its also cleaner for the same reason, people don’t usually go towards the end.
This is a very good question which i sometimes wonder about too. I have always chosen the 2nd toilet, which would be D in this case. Simply because, through experience, E will always be the grossest toilet, it being the nearest one. and the rest are just too far for me to walk to. hence, D is my chosen toilet
You see..I thought I was so smart to think I’ll choose A la wtf because not many people will choose A (cause so far from the door. All humans are lazy right?). After reading most of the comments posted..I realised..A lot of people will choose A. Now I don’t know which I will choose. The meaning of my life just cease to exist now. T.T

I always go for C! and be pissed when its occupied. I don’t know, I think its easier cos when I come out of the cubicle, I head straight for the sink to wash my hands and hog the mirror
I’ll choose E because i read somewhere that girls instinctively don’t like to use the one closest to the door = less people use = ALWAYS GOOD
And the last one i’ll go to is A because most people always shit in the corner/last one hahaha really!

I would go for D as not in the corner for spiders, most likely to have more light for me when I pee :3 and it is close enough to the door. Not E as too close to the door lol!

the end one! have no idea why but always head for the end cubicle. but then again, i always go for the cleanest. who wouldnt?
First, check if there’s squatting bowl, which are usually situated at the further end. If all are seating bowls, 1st clean looking one will be my choice. =p
i’ve heard people saying that its better not to use the end of the toliet because ghosts like to be in those toliets. so i always try to use somewhere in between unless i have no choice.
A. Corner toilets pour moi, E doesn’t constitute as ‘corner’ for me since able-bodied people tend to use handicapped toilets/parking lots/whatever anyway wtf.

i never realised that i normally chose the further corner (A in your illustration) until you popped up this question hehe… I feel more secure doing my business between a solid wall and another stall than in between 2 stalls.
i prolly will go to the A because it is the furthest and people will not walk past the toilet im currently used!

i’ll go for D or C. but first, i’ll walk past E and look inside. Even if it’s clean, i’ll follow the walking momentum till i stop by D or C. because i like to keep going till the realisation hits me that i have to stop going or i’ll end up at the last one which is A, then if A isn’t clean, i’ll be damned wtf cause need to walk back. What determines C or D is how badly i need to pee. If i cant tahan edi, i’ll go for D.

A! especially if im doing a big one.
BECAUSE (and this makes a lot of sense k!) you want to go into the toilet that’s furthest from the main door (so that if there happens to be a queue suddenly they don’t get unpleasant whiffs of ermmm any smell or errmm plopping noise from your cubicle), and you want to be in a corner (cause you need to minimise the number of people around you, and when you’re in a corner you only have the possibility of one unfortunate person in the stall beside you).
AND AND say there’s a queue and you’ve finished your business, there’s more time for any smell to dissipate into the air while you walk from your toilet to the sink, and the person next in line walks to your stall, cause it’s the furthest from the queue!

If urinals, I’d take the furthest away. I don’t shit in public toilet unless like almost come out already. You know, almost that peek-a-boo stage. Then, don’t care already clean or dirty, near or far. Like that also, I try to minimize the amount of skin touching the toilet seat. I have a phobia with others’ bodily fluid. Hell, I even gag when I see a spittle wtf.
i always head straight to the last cubical in this case A! u’r not alone suet, i actually noticed i always go to the last cubical everytime, and now i start to wonder why, n everytime i go to the toilet now i will make myself use the other cubes just to see how it ‘feels’ making me going into them HAHAHA.
the more valid reason of choosing the end most is because i strictly only use the squatting toilets, and in malaysia they are usu in the end, so i dont hv to pop open every door to check which is the squatting one.
i’ll go straight to A because when i need to shit i dont want others to hear me go ‘plop plop plop’ so yeah

we’re assuming all of them are clean and working right? okay, then i would always choose A. mostly because i don’t like public toilets anyway and with A i at least minimize the chances of having someone next to me while i take care of business… because one side got wall mah. also, if i take the one at the end, the next person who comes in is probably obligated to take one at LEAST one door down from me, so if got smell then not so bad lah for them! see i am very thoughtful wtf

I take E.. only because my Biology teacher told me that research shows that a lot of people would go for the last one. If public toilet ar.

i choose the handicap one. but only if there are no handicap people around. cos handicap toilets have full length mirrors and after i pee/poo i have to check and see if i have toilet paper hanging from my jeans or if my pants/skirt koyak cos i am damn unlucky and these things always happen to me :(. but if there is a handicap person around, i choose E cos it’s nearest!

I’d pick D because the position seems… just right? Hahaha.. E seems too close to the entrance. Besides, the sink is right in front of D. (Actually, I think I’m just lazy to walk further than I have to, esp if really need to pee la lol)

I always take A wan! But I dunno why, I just automatically use the stall that is the furthest away from the entrance. Otherwise, I’ll use C. Guess I always use corner stalls.

but in this situation when everything is empty… i would usually go to the one next to the corner. because most people will try to skip a stall. so if you are the 1st mover, it would probably be B or D.
the expected move by the next person would to be D, A or E.. hopefully by then, you would be done with the business.. before the entire bathroom fills up.
Eew, hope you guys do not poo in the public toilets, as what if the water inside the toilet when you poo splashes onto your bum.
I would never, ever poo at any public toilet. Once I was so desperate for a poo at school time, I specifically went home at lunchtime to poo. Lol!

I will choose B because toilet usually share lights and corner cubicles are always the darkest. I assess my health thru the colour of my poo/pee.

I only use squat typed toilet instead of the sit ones bcos they’re so dirty! so I’ll usually choose A bcos the squat type toilet is usually at the end. haha

I prefer having a wall close to me. Plus I only get to smell someone else’s business from one side instead of two. Hah!!
When I’m in uni, I’ll choose the one that’s cleanest and the one where you cannot see lizard outside of your toilet. T_T Lizards always hang out at the light there so I must make sure they are not there or at least there are not licking their lips there. T_T Horrifying creature.

Before I select a toilet, I will check, starting from E:
1) that the toilet is a seated toilet
2) that the toilet is clean
3) that the toilet has an ample supply of toilet paper
First toilet I come across that fulfills these requirements, I will take, regardless of where they are located.
If all else fails, I will use the handicapped toilet if I am absolutely sure there are no actual handicapped people around. Btw, I have never once encountered an actually handicapped person coming out from or going into a handicapped toilet. (Why is that?)
