Negeri di bawah bayu
Hey! Sorry for the hiatus guys, I have no time to blog
Just came back from Phuket yesterday, saw my dad whom I haven’t seen in 6 months, then had to fly here this morning! I’m in Kota Kinabalu now by the way and will be here for a week. I’m so excitedddd but can’t do anything now cause it’s raining cats and dogs outside.
I’m actually here on a mission/project, not to be a tourist but once I arrived, I couldn’t help but want to abandon my project to be a tourist instead wuwu. You know why? Cause it’s soooo beautiful here!!! I’m always a scenery/sightseeing kinda person when I travel and Sabah is so beautiful in that sense!
Let me tell you about my project anyway. Dom (who’s from KK), Joe Liew and I thought of this when we were at the Malaysia Forum this year. We initially wanted to travel around Malaysia and make a documentary on what being Malaysian is all about. We wanted to use the food angle to see what unites Malaysians and what makes them identify with being Malaysians. I know there are lots of documentaries of that sort already so we wanted to not focus on the food, but on the people behind the food. Not a novel idea, but we were making this as a personal project so it doesn’t really matter.
But as summer approaches, we found it hard to coordinate our free time especially when I have my internship and they have their jobs. So, that elaborate idea was shortened into this KK trip now! I really wanted to still see how people identify with being Malaysian, especially people from East Malaysia.
We’ve heard about what people from KL think. Heck, we’ve heard TOO much of it. Noone really knows what east malaysians think about the concept of 1Malaysia cause for all we know, they’ve already had that concept long before we even thought of it. Dom told me that Sabahans identify with being Sabahans primarily, and not really Malaysians.
Soooo i just thought it’d be interesting to travel around and to talk to people to see how they feel about being Malaysians. It won’t be a documentary cause we don’t have time for that seeing that we’re only here for a week. I’m here with Andrew and Yangli as well, my fellow PEMANDU colleagues
We’ll be going to Tenom and Kundasang too. Can’t wait!! Sorry this post is a little jumbled and rambly but I’m trying to type as fast as I can now. Sorry for the coming hiatus as well! Blogging can wait when there are just soooooooooooooooooooo muchhhhhhhhhhhh tooooooooo doooooooooooo.
Also, if you’re going to be in KK/know people from KK, we’re also here to organize the US education workshop. Always wanted to study in the US? (or want to party in the USA? wtf) Come join us this Saturday! It’s free and I’ll be there
You can ask us anything you want about the US education! More HERE: usapps2010.wordpress.com/kk/
That’s all bye! Have a great week ahead everyone! I know I will be.

Must try Tenom Coffee!
Hello!
I think your mission is really interesting! We take for granted some things about our way of living, but usually they’re different in other countries…or surprisingly, the same!
Greetings from Italy!
hey suet li… i’m from kk…
hehe..
but currently doin my prof papers in kl ..
remember to try the local food in kk.. tuaran mee, beef noodle, pork noodle, fish noodle, roti kahwin, etc etc etc… typing this right now makes me miss those food even more…drools..
enjoy ur stay there!!
First of all, I’m from Sarawak but I love KK so much that I visited that place over and over again. I’m not yet tired of that place yet.
I do agree that East Malaysians had that concept long ago. Hope you had fun like I do.
*clicks like
bring me a rafflesia wtf
I went to KK the other day, people from KK are SUPER FRIENDLY!
And ya, i agree with you. Sabahans and Sarawakians normally indentify themselves as Sabahans and Sarawakians a lot, compare to Malaysians. I don’t know why, but I was discriminated once in a state (confidential) in peninsular, just because I am sarawakian, so maybe that is why.
Btw, I blog about my Sabah trip.

I’m sure you will enjoy your time there.. Your project sounds interesting btw. I think you can see quite a vast difference between West Malaysia and East Malaysia.. you’ll understand what I mean when u do your project.. hehe.. I wish I can go to Sabah to meet you! I’m such of fan of you n your blog.
sweatlee so proud/happy of you to do this because all the time you have always said you are proud to be malaysia and you would like to see malaysia as one and to actually see you make effort to make a difference is something a lot of young malaysians lack.
gambateh minum banyak teh wtf

I had a trip to KK with my university friends before. It’s really a nice place. The pace of life in KK is not as fast as in KL, so you can always enjoy your relaxing holidays there.
